…Creating on the Hill…

Life is about the people you meet and the things you create with them

..A is for Applique..

..this month i am joining in with a lovely challenge that Lucie my creative friend has organised on her blog “lucie the happy quilter”.

For the challenge we have to create a block using applique and a monthly theme

April’s theme is “Home is where the Heart is…

I decided for the challenge i would tackle it from a mixed media view (another excuse to get messy!!) i am going to create the blocks using different materials and textures and fingers crossed create a “Fabric Journal”…

..i used fabric scraps(i have also been following Lucies “use up your scraps” challenge) to make the house and hearts then raw edge appliqued them to the calico backing (the calico block was leftover from a project i taught a couple of years ago!)..i used my walking foot and “free motioned” around the shapes using different stitches and threads..

..working back to front(not unusual for me !!) i then coloured the background with my watercolour inktense blocks and added texture with bottle tops and sequin waste.. it was nice to sit down and stitch the title and embellishments.

one day at a time supplies 2

This was a lot of fun for me and because Lucie has said we can create anyway we want using applique means i get to be “me”..

…being who you are and staying true to what you believe in i think is important..when we try to squeeze ourselves into someone elses idea of what is “normal” makes for a very uncomfortable journey..(and my arms and legs don’t seem to want to fit in a box!!)

The Crafts House is a small studio on top of a "hill"..a place to create..a place to breathe..a time just for you.. I'm the luckiest person to spend my days creating the art that i love..meeting like minded creative friends..sharing time in the palette of life..

  1. It’s time we all burst out of our boxes and did our own thing. I love your block and I’m so pleased you have decided to join the challenge in your own way. After all there are no rules apart from the theme. Well done.

  2. Your block looks fab and I hope you get no more spam fritters on your new blog. Shell x

  3. Hi Sandra, Happy New Blog! Sorry you’ve had the hassle and had to move though – but the effort was worth it and it looks fab!
Wishing you much bloggy happiness in your new ‘home’.
    Kerry x
