…Creating on the Hill…

Life is about the people you meet and the things you create with them

…just don’t like it…

do you have those days when you look at what you’ve created and think ..I don’t like it..and no matter which way you look at it nothing looks right..

a bit like when i try clothes on and nothing looks right or fits!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

its how i felt about this journal page..i liked the background ,i liked the dresses,i liked the border

but i just don’t like the hair  or faces!

now rather than rip the page out(i have done that before) or stick pages together…i decided to paint out what i didn’t like

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

..so out the hair and faces went..using gesso i blocked out the bits i wanted to change.

Now they look like they have sacks on their heads!….

..i then set to and painted the face, hair and hat with acrylic paints..the background i repainted with Artbars…

i covered this with a layer of gel medium(seals the paint in and allows me to rework the area) adding shading at this point blended the new colours back in to the page.

i painted very simple features for the ladies, then used large sequin waste to add white……i am on the look out for large circle sequin waste,i always used to get  it through school supply catalogs when i was teaching in schools but i can’t seem to find it now…isn’t it funny how we get used to certain tools and supplies, they are like favorite toys (my favorite toy was a “Tiny Tears” that cried real tears and i loved it)

….i added the title..we are right in the middle of some beautiful weather here and it feels just like Summer time..i would like to add some more words but haven’t decided what but for right now i am HAPPY with the heads…yeay..

..after adding more colour, dry brushing, stamps and embellishing ……..I’m Liking the Journal page…

Its ok to not like what you have created but don’t give up,leave the project  “Step away from the project”!! …work out what it is you don’t like and see how it can be changed

Happy journaling everybody

The Crafts House is a small studio on top of a "hill"..a place to create..a place to breathe..a time just for you.. I'm the luckiest person to spend my days creating the art that i love..meeting like minded creative friends..sharing time in the palette of life..

  2. Hi Sandra, I have to agree with your sentiments about not giving up on the project. I too have torn things up and even flung the project across the room in frustration (taking a chunk out the wallpaper!) which is really bad, but I’ve found the best way to deal with pesky projects is to leave them. It might be days, weeks, or months before I return to them and, you know, when you look at the same thing through fresh eyes, it’s not as bad as you first thought. Really. That’s probably why I have numerous UFO’s too (embarrassed chuckle). See you soon, Karen x

  3. Hi, I am determined to keep my UFO box to a minimum..i’m very lucky because Amy has tackled the box and there are not many left now.

  4. I wish Amy would come to my house and work on my UFOs! Sandra I love the way to sorted out what you didn’t like about your journal page. Most of us would simply rip the page out and start over but you were determined to put it right. You journal page looks great now. If I could just get my version of that page going I’d be laughing. Thank you for sharing.

  5. Step away from the project is a very good instruction – do it quite a bit myself!
    Love the finished page.
