..A is for Applique challenge..

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

…a bit late but i have finished my July A is for Applique challenge on Lucie’s blog..am so loving this challenge and even if i don’t finish on time there is no problem..the kind of challenge i love

the  theme for July was “Looking through the window”..and my view was in my imagination and whimsical reminding me to take the time to Breathe..

..i used canvas on a roll as its to be another page in my fabric journal (i will post a picture when i have the 2 pages joined together)

i lightly penciled in a hill and painted the sky Desert Turquoise(DecoArt paints)…i rubbed the paint in with a baby wipe,it keeps the paint moving and allows me to blend easily.

I then used sequin waste to add white “clouds”..

then i added a house and painted this with Santa red..the hill i patch worked with scrap papers (ideal for using up those scraps)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

loved mixing up the green pattern papers..a little dab of glue to hold papers in place before sewing

then it was time to add the details to the house….i use a sewing machine at this point to attach all the papers and to sew around the house..i need to point out at this time that to use a sewing machine for mixed media is more than ok.. BUT…you need to keep a needle just for this and give your machine a good clean (unlike me who couldn’t understand why my machine was playing up and found out that i had a lot of Gunk inside when making the Beads for Courage bags and i had forgotten to clean my machine!!)..

..it was time for more fun bits and bobs..flowers..sunshine..words

..so much fun doodling and so many really good doodles..

—– ♥♥♥♥♥—–

A is for Applique challenge this month is “Birds and Bees”….it has been one of my favorite challenges this year because Lucie is quite happy for us all to tackle this any way we want and for me that means “playtime”……..i have used this theme also in this months journal page ( i will post about the journal page this week too)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

..a rough sketch of my ideas..a plan but not set in concrete

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

..im using canvas on a roll for this page (exactly the same as canvas on a painting but you cut it to the size you want and its not stretched on a wood frame)

i painted all the page with primary yellow acrylic paint..2 coats ..drying with hairdryer in between coats.

As i am using this challenge to make a journal i am keeping the fabric/canvas pages the same size

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

..i cut out birdhouse and bee hive shapes from fabric (top bird house is liberty print that June so kindly gave me..a very posh birdhouse!)

and also pattern papers, i played around with positions of shapes before using a dab of glue stick to keep them lightly on canvas

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

..now it was time to add bird shapes..fun to use spots and stripes as patterns

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

then its time to add bees, flowers and a fabric strip of grass. The flowers at the bottom are stamped, a little patchy on canvas but easy to fill in gaps with pens and colour

..its the doodling that makes it fun..

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

i now used my sewing machine and different colour threads to secure fabric and paper shapes. I added stalks and leaves and stamped words

..oh yes and i couldn’t resist using sequin waste..it looks like honeycomb!
