…Creating on the Hill…

Life is about the people you meet and the things you create with them

…Creating a time to Breathe..

Index Card Journal 3

…one of the MOST IMPORTANT things i need to remind myself of … anytime I sit down to  create, whether it is in my art journal or a new project….is  I need to take the time to breathe and that I  ENJOY the process…

..and that means not comparing my art to someone else.. I love social media, pinterest, instagram like everybody but it can sometimes make me  compare myself to other artists who I have decided are much more talented….that then makes me start to doubt..that then stops me creating…then I’m not breathing…does that make sense?

SOOOOOOOO….in order for me to keep breathing I need to keep creating, i have had a few days off work and I have really enjoyed

  • creating in my latest journal (more about that project this week…)
  • designing new projects for ‘Springtime @ The Crafts House
  • painting orders (normally I procrastinate about this but with my new ‘create-mosphere’….more about that too!)
  • watching our new ‘creative space’ be built (David is creating this  for us both)
  • templates for chunky frame workshop
  • collaborating with David on a mixed media project for a gift

…. i thought it would be a good idea to repeat a mini tutorial i did a while ago….how i created this Dream canvas

blank canvas

..choose a canvas or if you have an old canvas this is a great way to cover it up and create something new

324 11x14 Brown Paper BagAA-MED-Matt-Gel-237ml_8620625

..tear a couple of brown paper bags(or re-cycle brown envelopes/paper) and glue to canvas using matt gel medium

when canvas is completely covered, apply another layer of matt gel over the top and dry before moving to next stage

french mauve decoart - CopyOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

..paint over the canvas with your chosen colour, i used acrylic but tester pots would be good too

wooden lettersscrapbook papers

using scrapbook papers/wrapping paper/wallpaper cut out your word…i used wooden letter templates but you could print letters out on the computer and use them as templates or there are plastic letter templates too

glue your letters/word to the canvas using a glue stick and apply a coat of gel medium over the top, i added the word at the bottom but any where would be good..you choose

..i then cut out shapes from scrap papers…flowers, birds, birdhouses….could be hearts, owls, houses etc

i glued these to the canvas with a glue stick and applied a coat of gel medium too

i added brown paint using my finger to the edges of the canvas the letters and the shapes. This will give and aged look.(you can also use an ink pad or watercolour pencils)

circle-stamp 139113-3-1

using white paint i painted a paint lid and applied circles

i use a fine ink pen (you can use a fine sharpie) to add doodles and details to the picture

I print quotes or words using my computer then cut round them and add to the canvas..save these into a file on your computer and you can use them when doing other projects

…to the FUN bit….glue ols jewellery, gems and sparkle to your canvas (for this i use a stronger glue)

and your DREAM becomes a reality…..x

..Journal is finished!!…

cover 2

…i felt a big sense of achievement finishing my large journal, it has taken 2 years and has been a journey like no other..

..I have saved this belt so i could use it on this journal, i cut it and drilled it to the back of the cover…the cover was created using brown paper , gel medium and acrylic paint

…I have a few pages left in my large journal to finish…my  plan is to get the last pages completed and move on to the cover, Margaret and Alison are also working on this large journal on a Saturday and have become ‘Journal Buddies’ so we brain stormed at the weekend and have come up with a couple of ideas for the cover…can’t wait to get started now!

journal page 6

..i can’t remember if i showed you this page, one i love because it shows the ‘Mom and Dad’ owl with their little owls..reminds me of  my family x

journal page 2

this page i painted with gesso then covered with black paint..took 2 coats but made a great surface for..

journal page 3

sitting in my comfy chair with a white pen and doodling away

journal page 1

if you notice my design isn’t perfect the, circles aren’t perfectly round but that doesn’t matter…..it was the doodling that mattered…it makes me feel calm when i doodle, i get lost in the squiggles, dots and dashes…it’s like a release

journal page 4

journal page 5

these are the last 2 pages to begin journaling on..i have started on the backgrounds and will get started on the detail over the next week..
